As for the borders, it borders Missouri to the west, Tennessee to the south, Virginia and West Virginia to the east, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana to the north with the Ohio River that marks the border.


One of its cities, Hodgenville, was the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln.

In Kentucky, five main geographical areas can be identified.

To the east lies the Cumberland plateau, which is characterized by a hilly and mountainous landscape, in the central-north the Bluegrass region, which is mainly flat, in the central-south the fertile region of the Pennyroyal Plateau, to the north-west the Western Coal Fields where there are some coal mines and where the soil is impervious but quite fertile, in the south-west end there is the Jackson Purchase which is the part acquired in 1818 by Andrew Jackson by the Chicasaw Indians.


Numerous rivers cross the territory of Kentucky and Lake Cumberland is also included on it, which is the largest artificial lake located east of the Mississippi.

Ohio, Mississippi, the Big Sandy River, Tennessee, Cumberland and Green River are among the most important navigable rivers in this state and the United States of America.

The forest areas are very large and some of them are used as natural parks.

Frankfort, in addition to being the capital, is the capital of Franklin County, geographically located in the Bluegrass region located in the central part of the state.
