How to get to the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora de la Salette, the place where the Madonna appeared to two shepherd children in the early afternoon of September 19, 1846.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of La Salette is located in France, department of the Isère capital Grenoble, above the village of Corps (RN 85 between La Mure and Gap), at 1787 m above sea level, in the municipality and parish of La Salette -Fallavaux in Beaumont.
On the border of the Ecrins Nation Park, inserted in a beautiful natural setting, the Basilica was built near the site of a Marian Apparition that took place in 1846, on an esplanade, Les Baisses, between Mount Planeau (m.1804), the majestic slopes of mount Gargas, (m.2208), mount Chamoux (m.2198) and the Croce di Rougny (m.2259) further east.
The apparition of the Virgin Mary occurred on September 19, 1846, around three in the afternoon, to two boys, a fifteen-year-old shepherdess named Mélanie Calvat and an eleven-year-old young shepherd named Maximin Giraud while they were grazing the cows.
During the apparition, the Virgin Mary entrusted to Massimino and Melania a message intended for "all her people", which the bishop of Grenoble authenticated with a pastoral letter on September 19, 1851.
How to get
It is possible to reach the Sanctuary by car or on foot through the many marked trails, for example from Valbonnais (north), from Valgaudemar (south-east), from Corps (south-west).
These routes offer the opportunity to appreciate the different species of alpine fauna and flora and to admire the splendid landscape of medium and high mountains.
From the area there are also many other paths that allow the visitor to appreciate the beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
By car from Grenoble to Gap, take the RN 85 (called Route Napoléon ”) to Corps, then leave the RN 85 and start a 14 km climb.
The Sanctuary includes a modern reception center capable of hosting pilgrims in both summer and winter.
