Tourist itineraries on Lake Garda

Including in the provinces of Trento, Verona and Brescia, Garda is of glacial origin and represents the largest lake in Italy of which the main input is the Sarca river, while the only emissary is the Mincio river.

In the lake there are five islets, the largest of which is the Isola del Garda, followed by the San Biagio Island, the Trimelone Island and the two smaller ones, the Dream Island and the Isola degli Olives.

It is one of the best known places on Lake Garda, also known for its spas. The town is a municipality in the province of Brescia and stands on a long, narrow peninsula that juts out into the lake.

It is a very interesting destination for its remains dating back to Roman and medieval times.


At the tip of the promontory there are the ruins of a large Roman villa, called "Le grotte di Catullo" built between the 1st century BC. and the first century AD, belonging to a very rich Veronese family, was probably one of the residences of the Latin poet Catullus.

This place is an excellent panoramic point on the lake, as is the Scaligera Fortress, located in a defensive position, was built in the fifteenth century by the Scaligeri.

Desenzano

It is located in the south-western part of Lake Garda, is a municipality in the province of Brescia and is the largest city among those overlooking the lake.


Its historic center is characterized by elegant buildings and beautiful churches, it opens onto the lake, while an intertwining of narrow streets leads to the Medieval Castle, endowed with great scenographic charm.

Salo

It is located in the western part of Lake Garda, is a municipality in the province of Brescia. The town was a Roman settlement called Salodium, as evidenced by the continuous archaeological finds.

It was the capital of the Magnifica Patria, a territorially based institution formally dominated by Venice, but with wide margins of autonomy.

In Salò between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries there are many traces left by the Serenissima Republic.

Of the ancient fourteenth-century walls, built by the Veronese Scaligeri, the two gates that delimit the entrance to the oldest part of the city remain.

In Piazza della Vittoria, which overlooks the panoramic lakefront, there is the fifteenth-century Palazzo della Magnifica Patria, built by Sansovino in Venetian times, now the seat of the Municipality.

The Civic Archaeological Museum is set up in the loggia of the Palace.

Do not miss a visit to the prestigious Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunciata, with a Gothic-Renaissance imprint, the first stone was placed on October 7, 1453, the designer was the architect Filippo delle Vacche.


This town between 1943 and 1945 was the seat of some ministries of the Italian Social Republic, for this reason called the Republic of Salò.

Gardone

Municipality of the province of Brescia, it is located on the western shore of Lake Garda.

The town is a real botanical garden for the variety and beauty of the plants that live in this environment.

Gardone Riviera recalls the end of the nineteenth century holiday, when the first German tourists began to frequent it, in the splendid villas and large hotels.

In Gardone di Sotto there are cafes, hotels and shops.

Lemon

The town is famous for its lemon groves and is a popular tourist destination.

Municipality in the province of Trento, it is the main center of Garda Trentino and is located in the northwestern corner of Lake Garda.

This location has been called a Mediterranean oasis, being also located at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites.

Piazza III novembre is very beautiful, with Lombard-Venetian style buildings, nearby is the Rocca Scaligera, a fortress on the lake, home to the Civic Museum and the Pinacoteca.
