Saint Catherine of Sweden

Katarina Ulfsdotter, commonly known as Catherine of Sweden, was born in about 1331 and died in Vadstena on March 24, 1381.

Second daughter of the eight children of Saint Brigid, Catherine of Sweden was a great Swedish mystic who left a profound mark on the history, life and literature of the Scandinavian country.


He married Edgarvon Kyren very young, a husband who left her free to make her choices, consenting to his wife's desire to observe the vow of chastity.

When she was nineteen Caterina joined her mother in Rome, where she took part in her intense religious life and her pilgrimages.

When Brigida died, Catherine brought her body back to Sweden and subsequently, in 1375, entered the monastery of Vadstena.


In 1380 she was elected mother superior, a position she held until her death on March 24, 1381.
