Blessed Francesco Faà di Bruno
Francesco Faà di Bruno, born in Alessandria on March 29, 1825 and died in Turin on March 27, 1888, was the twelfth and last child of the Marquis Luigi Di Bruno and Carolina Sappa dei Milanesi.
Coming from a family of the Piedmontese nobility he was the younger brother of the future captain of vessel Emilio Faà di Bruno.
Left orphaned in 1834, when he was just nine years old, in 1836 he entered the boarding school of the Somaschi Fathers in Novi Ligure while, in 1840, he was accepted into the military academy of Turin.
Before being consecrated priest, he followed his military career, becoming an officer of the Savoy army, subsequently taught at the University of Turin, practiced the profession of architect and mathematician, as well as that of adviser to the Royal House.
He was the founder of the work of Santa Zita dedicated to service women and, in addition to this, a reception house for single mothers and the congregation of the Minime Sisters of Our Lady of Suffrage.
Throughout his life Francesco Faa Di Bruno was always a man of great faith, even as a soldier he wrote a book entitled the "Manual of the Christian soldier".
As a man of science he always bore his testimony to try to reconcile any divergences concerning the relationship between science and faith.
As an authentic culture of music, he published the magazine "Lira cattolica" dedicated to sacred music.
As a musician he did not fail to compose also sacred melodies which, for their simplicity and for the sense of peace that they managed to convey to the listeners, were even appreciated by Franz Liszt.
He created Sunday singing schools frequented mainly by those same service women to whom he had dedicated most of his works.

Suddenly died of an intestinal infection and immediately entered into the smell of holiness, he was recognized blessed in 1988, when a hundred years had passed since his death.
Blessed Francesco Faa Di Bruno is patron of the technical body of the Engineers of the Italian Army, his remains are in Turin in an urn exposed in front of a fresco, inside the side chapel in the church of Nostra Signora del Suffragio and Santa Zita .
