He was born in Thonon-les-Bains on February 1, 1435 and died in Vercelli on March 30, 1472.

Amedeo IX in 1452 married Jolanda di Valois, daughter of King Charles VII of France.

He led a rigorous life characterized by fasting and penance, accepting his illness with resignation combined with the sufferings of Christ.

He became a Franciscan tertiary, had churches and monasteries built and was always devoted to practices of piety.

In his spiritual testament there is this touching exhortation: “Be upright. Love the poor and God will guarantee you peace. "

His remains rest today in the cathedral of San Eusebio in Vercelli, the city in which he died.
