San Beda the venerable

Born around 673 and died on May 26, 735, Beda was a Benedictine monk in the monastery of St Peter and Paul near Wearmouth in England and Jarrow in Northumberland.

Beda was a great scholar and author of many texts, among which the best known is the "ecclesiastical history of the English people", which earned him the nickname "Father of English history", where the universal character is highlighted of the church.

Among the masterpieces of his vast literary production are exegetical, ascetic, scientific and historical works.

In all his writings his character emerges, which was typical of a humble and sincere man, endowed with great capacity for discernment, thanks to his beliefs of Christian faith and his extreme wisdom.

Its importance for the Catholic religion was fully recognized only in 1899, when he was declared Saint and Doctor of the Church, with the name of San Beda the Venerable.
