Notaresco (Abruzzo): what to see in the ancient village

post-title

What to see in Notaresco, an ancient Abruzzo village in the province of Teramo located in the valley of the Vomano river and only a few kilometers away from the Adriatic Sea.

Tourist information

Developed around the castle, also called Rocca del Civitillo, of which only a few remains remain, Notaresco has the typical appearance of the medieval village located on the slopes of the hill.

Definitely worth seeing is the Church of San Clemente al Vomano, a religious building characterized by simple architectural features typical of the Romanesque style, which shows a rich portal of the facade and houses the wonderful tabernacle considered among the oldest and most monumental in the Abruzzo region.

The church, which belonged to the Benedictine monks, was part of the homonymous monastery founded in the ninth century probably by order of Ermengarda, who was the mother of Emperor Ludwig III.

What see

The Romualdi Archaeological Museum displays very ancient archaeological finds, found in various places in the area around the town.

Giuseppe De Vincenzi was born in the Mazzarosa De Vincenzi building, built on several occasions. He was a senator and minister of early nineteenth-century Italy, he was a great scholar and was the precursor of the mechanical plowing of the land.

In addition to this De Vincenzi also planted the first specialized vineyards, patenting various systems aimed at improving the processing of the grapes.

The archaeological site of Grasciano, located nearby, is also worth a visit, where you can see the numerous remains of a Roman villa.
