What to see in Nova Siri, a small village located in the province of Matera along the Ionian coast, in correspondence with the Gulf of Taranto, an itinerary from the castle on the hill to the sea, including the Vasche di Sant'Alessio and the archaeological remains of Torre Bollita.

The origins of Novi Siri date back to Magna Grecia, over time it often had the role of military outpost to guard the Ionian coast, especially at the time of the raids carried out by Saracen pirates.
At the top of the hill is the castle, which dominates the historic center and from which it is possible to enjoy a splendid panorama towards the sea.
The first construction of the manor dates back to the Middle Ages, but the building was repeatedly remodeled over time, some know it with the name Castello di Bollita.
The original appearance of the castle has been modified by some private houses, although some portions remain intact, including the eighteenth-century wrought iron balconies, the portal, the perimeter walls and a keep.
Worth a visit is the 16th century Mother Church, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, with an interior with three naves and a semicircular apse, where the statue of Santa Maria delle Grazie is kept.
Over time there have been numerous archaeological finds, such as that which took place near the Torre Bollita, where the remains of a necropolis dating back to the Hellenistic era were found, while in other areas the remains of a Roman spa were found, as well as housing structures from the same period.
What see
In the town of Ciglio dei Vagni the remains of an imperial villa with mosaic floors and spas have been discovered.
In the surroundings of Nova Siri, lost in the Sant'Alessio district, there are the homonymous Baths, dating back to Roman times, which have the characteristic of being continuously filled with water using a siphon system.
In the central tank there is a continuous introduction of clear water with purifying characteristics, used in the past as a remedy for various ailments.
Nova Siri is more developed towards the sea, where the fraction called Nova Siri Marina is located.
