San Giosafat Kuncewycz
Giosafat Kuncewycz, aka John Kuncewycz, born in Ukraine in 1580 and died in Vitsyebsk on 12 November 1623, was a Ruthenian Greek Catholic archbishop, today revered as a saint by the Catholic Church.
The parents belonged to the Ukrainian nobility and were orthodox fervent.
Jehoshaphat completed his studies in Vilnius then, embraced the Catholic faith, he was welcomed among the monks of St. Basil.
Ordained priest and elected bishop of Polock, he dedicated himself with great commitment to the cause of the unity of the Church.
This stirred up hatred against some who decided to kill him.
He faced martyrdom in 1623.
Canonized by the Catholic Church in 1867, it is celebrated on November 12 of each year, the date corresponding to the day of his martyrdom.
