Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
Elizabeth, daughter of the king of Hungary, was born in 1207.
At a very young age she married Louis IV of Thuringia.
Faithful to the duties of his state, he placed his life at the same time at the service of the poor and the sick, distributing his goods and personally treating the lepers.
Her husband died during a crusade, he was unjustly expelled from the castle together with his three children still at an early age.
Elizabeth accepted the new condition of poverty with faith and fortitude, continuing to devote herself with love to the education of children, to the assistance of the sick and to prayer.
Under the spiritual direction of the theologian Corrado of Marburg he entered the Franciscan Tertiary Order and retired to the hospital he had built in 1228 in Marburg, where he lent his work to the care of the sick until his death in 1231 a only 24 years old.
