Saint Luke the Evangelist
The third evangelist was not Jewish, neither by race nor by religion.
After Matthew, a Jew who wrote for the Jews, after Mark, born in Jerusalem and who wrote above all for the Gentiles, Greeks and Romans, the third evangelist, Saint Luke, was of Greek origin and pagan of religion.
Originally from Antioch, Syria, he was a cultured man, with artistic inclinations and literary taste, who practiced the profession of doctor.
At the time of his conversion, Jesus no longer lived on earth, therefore he did not know him and never heard his voice.
He became affectionate companion of the disciples and pious women, especially friend of Paul.
And when he wanted to narrate for the third time, after Matthew and Mark, the life of Jesus, which he had not known, the doctor of Antioch remembered the stories of the disciples and the narratives of the women, collected traces and testimonies, analyzed documents and sought traditions .
Then, towards the year 62, he transcribed the result of the passionate work in his beautiful precise and poetic Greek.
Under his pen, the Good News was a consoling announcement, a message of salvation and universal concord.
Redemption was no longer a national or racial fact, it was exalted in its universal value, in a union of peoples not ideal, but already underway.
Proof of this was Saint Luke himself, a Greek by birth and a converted pagan.

He was above all the evangelist of Jesus' childhood and the biographer of the Madonna.
His Gospel, ordered with rigorous chronology, worthy of a scientist, composed with harmony and elegance, worthy of an artist, begins in fact with the Annunciation and the conception, not of Jesus, but, six months before, of John, the Precursor and future Baptist.
He gave a follow-up to the Gospel with the Acts of the Apostles, which form the luminous chronicle of the early years of the Church, after the Ascension and Pentecost.
But he did not evangelize only with the pen, in fact he was Paul's companion on various trips and with him he was in Rome, where, however, he did not stay.
Martyr died, but it is not known exactly where or how, some said in the Thebaid, others in Achaia, in Bithynia or generically in the East.
