The Saint of the 2nd October is the Holy Guardian Angels, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.

Holy Guardian Angels

In ancient times this feast was celebrated on September 29, together with that of San Michele, custodian and protector par excellence.

The use of a special festival dedicated to the Guardian Angels began to spread in Spain in the 1400s, in Portugal in the following century and subsequently in Austria.

In 1670, Pope Clement X set the date, for this Catholic feast in which the Guardian Angels are celebrated, on October 2nd.

This devotion assumed particular importance in the Middle Ages when lone monks sought the company of these invisible creatures and felt them present in their life of silent recollection.

After the Council of Trent, devotion to the Angels was better defined and experienced new diffusion.

In current life, however, men increasingly neglect this figure, so that they no longer feel the presence of a pure spirit, a constant witness of human thoughts and actions.

In this way, we end up relegating the figure of the Guardian Angel to the role of story for children and, not surprisingly, the iconography also focused on the figure of the Archangel Raphael, who guides and leads the young Tobiolo.

Furthermore, it should not be forgotten that it is a truth of faith that every man receives his own Guardian Angel, who accompanies him, inspires him and guides him, throughout his life, until his death, a perfect example of the conduct that should be held with regard to God and men.

The Guardian Angel is the luminous mirror on which every Christian should reflect his daily conduct, on this belief is based one of the most beautiful prayers dedicated to angels: “Angel of God, who you are my guardian, illuminates, guards, holds and govern me, who was entrusted to you by heavenly piety. Amen".
