History

History of the Opera Paris theater located in Palais Garnier in today's Place de l'Opera.

The building was built between 1860 and 1875 to a design by the architect of the same name in Napoleon III style, an excellent example of Second Empire architecture.

The Palais Garnier, the historical seat of the Paris Opera, is a beautiful example of Second Empire architecture.

Designed by the architect Charles Garnier, it has an imposing appearance that makes it worthy of welcoming the prestigious French opera company and its corps de ballet.

Over the centuries, starting from 1673 the Paris opera house changed its location many times, until the second half of the 19th century when the construction of this palace was decided, known for a long time as the Opèra de Paris .

New theater

In 1989, a new theater called Opéra Bastille was inaugurated in Paris, built in the Bastille area and today it houses, together with Palais Garnier, the Opèra National de Paris. Occasionally it is possible to visit the hall of the Theater, where a fabulous painting by Chagall makes a fine show.

Museum

In addition, in the same building there is also a museum, which collects reproductions of theatrical scenographies dating back to the 19th century, paintings that have the subject of ballet, and a library where theatrical and dance works are cataloged, as well as musical scores.
