Palinuro, a famous seaside resort in Cilento in southern Campania, is located in a small inlet of Capo Palinuro, a rocky and jagged promontory that juts out into the sea for about 2 km, full of caves carved into the rock and renowned for its natural beauty, for its history and its myths, in fact the place takes its name from a character of the Aeneid, Palinuro the helmsman of Aeneas, who fell into these waters at night, betrayed by the god Sleep, while he was at the helm of his boat.

The territory of Palinuro is rich in archaeological finds, a part of what has been brought to light is preserved in the Antiquarium, a small archaeological museum located in an enchanting position close to a cove in Ficocella.


For trekking enthusiasts, the path called the Primula Path is very beautiful, where you can admire the primula of Palinuro, an endemic plant of this stretch of coast, symbol of the Cilento del Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.

What see

Along the path that follows the perimeter of the promontory, in the final part there is the promenade of the towers and forts, where Spanish Viceroyal coastal towers rise, as well as French coastal fortresses and batteries.

Do not forget that in this wonderful landscape the main protagonist is the sea, with its beaches and coves, the boat trip to the caves, which includes swimming at the splendid Buondormire beach is a way to appreciate its beauty.


On the northern side of Punta della Quaglia is the entrance to the suggestive Blue Grotto, the most admired of the caves on the promontory.

The area offers spectacular beaches and coves, some can be reached from the ground, others only from the sea, among the most fascinating, in addition to Buondormire, there are Cala dei Porci, Cala delle Ossa, Cala Longa, the Arco Naturale and the Marinella.
