Pania della Croce (Apuane): at the top with the path from Piglionico

post-title

Story of an excursion to the Pania della Croce, how to reach it with the path that starts from Piglionico passing through the Rossi refuge to the summit.

Tourist information

Pania della Croce, is considered the queen of the Apuan Alps, as with its 1859 meters it is the highest in the group.

We started from Lucca and in about 3 quarters of an hour by car we arrived in Monte Piglionico, passing first through Gallicano and then through Molazzana.

Parked the car at about 1152 meters above sea level, we took the path c.a.i. n ° 7 which leads in about 1 hour and 30 minutes to the Rossi refuge (1622 m).

Pathway

The path is quite steep, it requires suitable shoes given the particularly stony and uneven ground.

We cross a beech forest for about 60 minutes, after which we go out in the open to see the dry pania on our left and in front of us the so-called dead man, a ridge so called for the characteristic facial shape that recalls the face of a man complete with eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth and chin.

Rossi refuge

After 30 minutes we reach the Rossi Refuge, a small but very functional refuge at an altitude of 1622 meters.

summit

From there we continue to the top of the pania where there is a large cross at an altitude of 1852 m which indicates the highest point.

The view is gorgeous, with the view sweeps over the surrounding mountains and on the opposite side to the one from which we climbed you can see the sea, a real show!
