Polistena (Calabria): what to see

post-title

What to see in Polistena, itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including the Church of Santa Marina, the Church of the Trinity, the Civic Museum and the Church of the Rosary.

Tourist information

Founded by the Byzantines, Polistena is located at 254 meters above sea level and located within the Gioia Tauro plain.

Destroyed by the earthquake of 1783, it was later rebuilt in the vicinity of the original place, with checkered urban planning.

Among the places to visit, the Church of Santa Marina deserves to be mentioned, which preserves important works inside, including a fresco depicting the Resurrection of Lazarus, by Carmelo Zimattone.

On the altar of the transept on the right there is a marble altarpiece, dating back to the early 1500s and depicting the Deposition, while in a chapel on the right you can admire "The Last Supper", by the painter Francesco Jerace.

What see

In a panoramic position, there is the church of the Trinity, which contains within it the Schiodata, or a sculptural group consisting of six wooden and papier-mache statues, the work of Francesco Morano, in addition to the group of the Madonna of Itria, built in 1797 by Vincenzo Scrivo, and a wrought iron pulpit from 1885.

In the civic museum, set up inside the municipal library, it is possible to view an exhibition of archaeological finds found in the surroundings of Polistena.

A visit to the Baroque Church of the Rosary is recommended, where stuccos and wooden statues are preserved.
