Psalm 142: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentTraditionally Psalm 142 is attributed to David, who wrote it while he was in the cave of Adullam. The man described in the psalm is in a state of great despair, he feels persecuted and with his life paralyzed, exactly as if he were imprisoned. He knows that only God knows the way out of this situation and, when the persecution is over, he will be recognized as the authority of kings by all righteous men.

Psalm 142 complete

[1] Maskil. Di Davide, when he was in the cave. Prayer.

[2] With my voice to the Lord I cry for help, with my voice I beg the Lord;

[3] before him I pour out my lament, in your sight I vent my anguish.

[4] While my spirit is failing, you know my way. In the path where I walk they have stretched me a snare.

[5] Look to the right and see: nobody recognizes me. There is no way out for me, nobody cares about my life.

[6] I cry to you, Lord; I say: You are my refuge, you are my fate in the land of the living.

[7] Listen to my plea: I touched the bottom of the anguish. Save me from my persecutors because they are stronger than me.

[8] Take my life out of prison, so that I may give thanks to your name: the righteous will crown me when you grant me your grace.
