Psalm 146: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentThe time when Psalm 146 was written dates back to a period after exile, characterized by a time of peace and normality. The psalmist intends to testify and praise the Lord for the rest of his life, but invites not to be duped by the powerful, who like to surround themselves with glory but, being men too, they will be destined to die like everyone else.

Psalm 146 complete

[1] Alleluia. Praise the Lord, my soul:

[2] I will praise the Lord all my life, as long as I live I will sing hymns to my God.

[3] Do not trust the powerful, a man who cannot save.

[4] Exhale the spirit and return to the earth; on that day all his designs vanish.

[5] Blessed is he who has the God of Jacob for help, who hopes in the Lord his God,

[6] creator of heaven and earth, of the sea and of what it contains. He is faithful forever,

[7] he does justice to the oppressed, he gives bread to the hungry. The Lord frees prisoners,

[8] the Lord restores sight to the blind, the Lord raises up those who have fallen, the Lord loves the righteous,

[9] the Lord protects the stranger, he supports the orphan and the widow, but upsets the ways of the wicked.

[10] The Lord reigns forever, your God, or Zion, for every generation.
