Psalm 43: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentIn Psalm 43 the protagonist is a man accused by unscrupulous people, who asks God for justice and to be defended from slander. Despite this, things seem to get worse to the point that he begins to think that God has rejected him. For this reason he asks God to examine him in depth, invoking light and truth, so that he will be guided on the pilgrimage to the holy mountain and to the shrines of the whole country where the Eucharist is celebrated. He firmly believes that, as soon as he arrives at the altar of God, he will have his heart renewed and overflowing with joy, to the point that he will sing the praises to God with the lyre and this will give him great strength not to be tempted by discouragement always lurking.

Psalm 43 complete

[1] Do me justice, O God, defend my cause against ruthless people; free me from the unjust and fallacious man.

[2] You are the God of my defense; why do you reject me, why do I go sad, oppressed by the enemy?

[3] Send your truth and your light; may they guide me, lead me to your holy mountain and your dwellings.

[4] I will come to the altar of God, to the God of my joy, of my jubilation. To you I will sing with the harp, God, my God.

[5] Why are you saddened, my soul, why do you groan over me? Hope in God: I will still be able to praise him, salvation of my face and my God.
