Psalm 45: complete, commentary

CommentTo understand Psalm 45 it must be specified that the kings of the Davidic dynasty were representations of the future king, or the Messiah. This is why the psalm looks to the Messiah who must come during the celebration of the wedding of a king of Israel. The wonderful praises that the psalmist addresses to the king have as their real recipient Christ Jesus.

[2] My heart pours out happy words, I sing my poem to the king. My language is a fast scribe stylus.


[3] You are the most beautiful of the children of man, grace spreads on your lips, God has blessed you forever.

[4] Gird, brave, the sword at your side, in the splendor of your majesty, fate will shine,

[5] he advances for truth, meekness and justice.


[6] Your right hand shows you wonders: your sharp arrows strike the king's enemies in the heart; peoples fall under you.

[7] Your throne, God, lasts forever; the scepter of your kingdom is just scepter.

[8] You love justice and impiety you hate: God, your God has consecrated you with oil of gladness, in preference to your equals.


[9] Your clothes are all myrrh, aloe and cassia, the ivy palaces cheer you up.

[10] Daughters of kings are among your favorites; on your right the gold queen of Ophir.
