Psalm 50: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentThe God of the Gods mentioned in Psalm 50 must be understood as that of the angels, who summons the earth from east to west, making his fidelity shine in Zion, with the promises of the covenant and the presence of the prophets called to denounce the sins of the people. Even the psalmist sees God advancing in the middle of a storm where lightning abounds, coming from the Sinai desert signed as the main place of the covenant. Heaven and earth are called spectators of judgment, angels go to call faithful and unfaithful to gather them in front of him. God begins a loving indictment to bring back to everyone the authentic content at the basis of the covenant.

Psalm 50 complete

[1] Psalm. Asaph Speak the Lord, God of gods, summon the earth from east to west.

[2] From Zion, splendor of beauty, God shines.

[3] Our God is coming and he is not silent; in front of him a devouring fire, around him the storm breaks loose.

[4] He summons heaven from above and earth to the judgment of his people:

[5] "Gathered before me, my faithful who have made the covenant with me by offering a sacrifice."

[6] Heaven proclaims his justice, God is the judge.

[7] "Listen, my people, I want to speak, I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God.

[8] I do not reproach you for your sacrifices; your burnt offerings are always before me.

[9] I will not take heifers from your home, nor goats from your pens.

[10] All the beasts of the forest are mine, animals by the thousands in the mountains.

[11] I know all the birds of the sky, it is mine that moves in the countryside.

[12] If I were hungry, I wouldn't tell you: mine is the world and what it contains.

[13] Shall I eat the flesh of the bulls, will I drink the blood of the goats?

[14] Offer to God a sacrifice of praise and dissolve your vows to the Most High;

[15] call on me on the day of misfortune: I will save you and you will give me glory. "

[16] God says to the example: "Why do you go repeating my decrees and you always have my covenant in your mouth,

[17] you who hate discipline and throw my words behind you?

[18] If you see a thief, run with him; and of adulterers you make a companion.

[19] You abandon your mouth to evil and your tongue deceives deceptions.

[20] You sit down, you speak against your brother, you throw mud against your mother's son.

[21] Have you done this and should I keep quiet? maybe you thought I was like you! I reproach you: I put your sins before you ”.

[22] Understand this you who forget God, because you do not get angry and nobody saves you.

[23] Whoever offers the sacrifice of praise, he honors me, to whoever walks the right way I will show the salvation of God.
