Psalm 56: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentIn Psalm 56 the author turns to God asking insistently to be forgiven, feels abandoned by him and for this he feels the weight on himself of the hand of the wicked. Having reached the limit of endurance, he continues to have faith in God, he firmly believes that he will be rescued, in the meantime he hides himself, waiting for the salvation that will come.

Psalm 56 complete

[1] To the choir master. On "Jonat elem rehoqim". Di Davide. Miktam. When the Philistines held him prisoner in Gat.

[2] Have mercy on me, O God, because man tramples on me, an aggressor always oppresses me.

[3] My enemies always trample on me, many are those who fight me.

[4] In the hour of fear, I trust in you.

[5] In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust, I will not be afraid: what can a man do to me?

[6] They always misrepresent my words, they only think of hurting me.

[7] They arouse strife and tend pitfalls, they follow my steps, to attempt my life.

[8] For so much iniquity have no escape: in your anger bring down the peoples, O God.

[9] You have counted the steps of my wandering, you gather my tears in your skin; aren't they written in your book?

[10] Then my enemies will fall back when I call upon you: I know that God is in my favor.

[11] I praise the word of God, I praise the word of the Lord,

[12] I trust in God, I will not be afraid: what can a man do to me?

[13] Upon me, O God, the vows that I have made to you: I will give you thanksgiving,

[14] because you freed me from death. You have preserved my feet from falling, because I walk in your presence in the light of the living, O God.
