Psalm 75: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentPsalm 75 recounts the thanksgiving from a community which, despite the difficult moment it is going through, does not refrain from telling the wonders accomplished by the Lord, that is, the exit from Egypt, the covenant, the conquest of the Promised Land and the fulfillment of all promises made. The era is that dating back to the Maccabees, while from the words we understand that we are geographically located in Palestine. The psalmist has no fear, no social upheaval will stop the plan of God which foresees the salvation of man.

Psalm 75 complete

[1] To the choir master. On "Don't forget". Psalm. Asaph I sing.

[2] We thank you, O God, we thank you: by invoking your name, we tell your wonders.

[3] In the time that I have established I will judge righteously.

[4] The earth with its inhabitants is shaken, I keep its columns firm.

[5] I say to those who boast: "Don't brag". And to the wicked: "Don't raise your head!".

[6] Do not raise your head against the sky, do not say insults to God.

[7] Not from the east, not from the west, not from the desert, not from the mountains

[8] but the judgment comes from God: it is he who breaks down one and exalts the other.

[9] For in the hand of the Lord is a cup filled with drugged wine. He pours it: until the scum they will have to endure it, all the wicked of the earth will drink it.

[10] But I will exult forever, I will sing hymns to the God of Jacob.
