Psalm 95: complete, commentary

CommentIn Psalm 95 the author invites to pray during a visit to the temple, it is presumed on the occasion of the feast of the huts with which the walk in the desert was celebrated. God is presented as a rock of salvation, or as He who gives security in the face of opponents, He is above all pagan gods, who manifest the action of the devil and have power over everything.

[1] Come, applaud the Lord, cheer on the rock of our salvation.

[2] Let us approach him to give him thanks, we cheer him with songs of joy.


[3] For the Lord is great God, great king over all gods.

[4] In his hand are the abysses of the earth, the peaks of the mountains are his.

[5] His is the sea, he made it, his hands have shaped the earth.


[6] Come, prostrate we adore, kneeling before the Lord who created us.

[7] He is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the flock he leads.

[8] Listen to his voice today: “Do not harden your heart, as in Meriba, as on the day of Massa in the desert,


[9] where your fathers tempted me: they tested me despite having seen my works.

[10] For forty years I disgusted myself with that generation and said: I am a people with a misguided heart, they do not know my ways;
