post-title

What to see in San Michele al Tagliamento, itinerary including the main places of interest, including Bibione Pineda, Villa Ivancich and Valgrande Natural Park.

Tourist information

San Michele al Tagliamento is a town in the province of Venice, located on the right bank of the Tagliamento river, on the border with Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Its territory also includes the seaside resorts of Bibione and Bibione Pineda.

The current settlement of San Michele dates back to the mid-twentieth century, as the original settlement was completely destroyed by the bombing suffered during the Second World War.

The new master plan, designed by the Venetian architect Angelo Scattolin, was implemented in an area located further south than the one where the previous urban center was located.

The war devastation is still clearly visible in Villa Mocenigo-Ivancich, a complex of great architectural value attributed in some parts to the architect Baldassare Longhena and of which only the ruins remain within a centuries-old park.

The building was built at the end of the 16th century by the noble Venetian Mocenigo family.

In 1870 the villa was purchased by Vincenzo Biaggini from Padua, later, thanks to the marriage between Elina, Vincenzo's daughter, and Giacomo Ivancich, it passed to the current owners, or the Ivancichs.

The villa was a very important cultural center, internationally renowned writers such as Ezra Pound and Ernest Hemingway were hosted there.

What see

The coastal part of San Michele al Tagliamento is the center of Bibione, which overlooks the Adriatic Sea with its long beach of fine sand, equipped with bathing establishments.

During the summer the resort offers a rich program of cultural, sporting and gastronomic events.

In Bibione Pineda there is also a long stretch of free beach very popular with those who practice sports.

In the most extreme part of the pine forest there is the well-equipped tourist port of Portobaseleghe.

Do not forget the Terme di Bibione located in front of the sea, which exploit mineral water from a depth of over 400 meters, having a temperature of 52 °.
