Tourist information

San Vito di Cadore is a town in the Belluno Dolomites, in the Veneto region, located in a large and bright valley at 1011 meters above sea level, on the left bank of the Boite stream, surrounded by the striking peaks of the Antelao, Pelmo and Croda Marcora.

The location is a well-known tourist center for winter and summer holidays, the last of the Cadore before the Ampezzo territory, a historical border, since from the 16th century until 1918, it corresponded to a state border between the Republic of Venice, to which San Vito belonged, and the Habsburg Empire, which had control over the Ampezzo territory.

The housing units that form San Vito are, Resinego, Sèrdes, Vallesella, corresponding to the municipal center, Costa and Chiapuzza.

The main place of worship of San Vito di Cadore is the church dedicated to Saints Vito, Modesto and Crescenzia, which stands in the center of the village.

Founded in 1208, the current structure dates back to a rebuilding carried out from 1754 to 1764 based on a design by Domenico Schiavi.

Inside there is a precious artistic heritage, including a canvas attributed to Andrea Celesti and an altarpiece with Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints, by Francesco Vecellio, as well as wooden works by the local sculptor Giovanni Battista De Lotto.

What see

A little further down there is the small Church of the Madonna della Difesa built at the end of the fifteenth century, and enlarged in 1855-56.

Inside you can admire many decorations, including the triptych and the altarpiece by Francesco Vecellio.

During the summer it is possible to make interesting trekking excursions, including the one to Mount Sentinella lasting about two hours and having an average level of difficulty, at the end of which, it will be possible to enjoy a spectacular panorama of San Vito di Cadore and the Boite valley.

The excursion to the Cappella di Tambres, which originates from a vow made as a thank you to Our Lady for saving a lost child, is to be considered an easy walk of about an hour and a half.
