Scoglio del Catalano (Sardinia): tourist information

post-title

Useful information on the Scoglio del Catalano, an islet where you can observe magnificent specimens of marine fauna, thanks to the beauty of the seabed, which makes it an ideal place for scuba diving enthusiasts.

Tourist information

Southwest of the island of Mal di Ventre in Sardinia is the Catalano rock, an integral reserve of the marine protected area.

The Catalano rock is a rocky body of volcanic origin, located about 12 miles west of Capo San Marco with a circular shape 700 meters wide and a maximum height of 12 m above sea level.

Without vegetation, it welcomes numerous species of sea birds that nest on the rock and feed on the fish of the surrounding sea. Some shallows to the south emerge from the sea like rocks.

Looking at the rocky seabed in front of the rock, you notice characteristic shapes that testify to the volcanic origin with vertical walls, columns, gullies, arches and caves of various sizes.

Thanks to the variety of the seabed, this stretch of sea is particularly suitable for scuba diving enthusiasts.

There are also many rocky ravines where you can admire marine fauna such as parazooanthus, sponges and crustaceans at the entrance.

Not far from the Catalan rock there are alcionari, red coral, groupers, all enclosed in a large marine protected area within a radius of 1 km.
