San Gennaro
Born in Naples in the second half of the second century, San Gennaro had been appointed Bishop of Benevento.
One day, while lending his spiritual assistance to the faithful who had been imprisoned because of their Christian faith, he was captured and beheaded.
A woman of a noble family, had the sensitivity to collect her blood in two ampoules which, after various movements from one place to another, in 1506 were definitively placed, together with some bones of the Saint, under the main altar of the Cathedral.
In this place, the Saturday preceding the first Sunday of May, the day on which the anniversary of the first translation is celebrated, September 19, the date on which the martyrdom is remembered, and December 16, the anniversary of a catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius , we witness the miracle of the liquefaction of the Saint's blood.
