September 20: saint of the day, name day

post-title

The Saint of the day 20 September is Holy Martyrs of Korea, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.

Holy Korean martyrs

For the apostolate of some lay people, the Christian faith entered Korea in the early 17th century.

Even without the presence of the pastors, a strong and fervent community was formed, guided and cultivated almost exclusively by lay people until the year 1836, when the first missionaries from France secretly entered the region.

From this community, during the persecutions of the years 1839, 1846, 1866 and 1867, 103 holy martyrs emerged, among which the first Korean priest, Andrea Kim Taegon, ardent shepherd of souls, and the distinguished lay apostle Paul Chong Hasang .

All the others, partly lay people, men and women, married and unmarried, old, young and children, associated in martyrdom, sealed with blood the wonderful spring of the Korean Church.
