Blessed San Vincenzo de ’Paoli
Born to a humble peasant family in Pouy, Aquitaine in 1581, Saint Vincent de Paul, after having completed his studies and was ordained a priest, became parish priest in Paris.
He was the founder of the Congregation of the Mission, born with the specific purpose of training the clergy in a holy way and to bring relief to the poor.
Helped by Saint Louise de Marillac, she also started the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity.
He died in Paris in 1660.
Under the pontificate of Pope Benedict XIII he was declared Blessed on 13 August 1729 and canonized by Clement XII on 16 June 1737.
Currently his body is exhibited in the Lazarist Chapel in Paris.
Until 1969, the liturgical celebration of Saint Vincent de Paul took place on July 19th, but Pope Paul VI moved this feast to September 27th.
