St. Jerome
Born in Stridóne in Dalmatia around the year 340, Saint Jerome undertook literary studies in Rome, where he was baptized.
After embracing the ascetic life, he went to the east and was ordained a priest.
Returning to Rome, he was secretary to Pope Damasus and at that time he began revising the Latin translations of Holy Scripture and promoted monastic life.
After settling in Bethlehem, he took a very active part in the events and needs of the Church.
He wrote many works, especially commentaries on Sacred Scripture.
He died in Bethlehem in 420.
