Serino (Campania): what to see

post-title

What to see in serino, itinerary including the main places of interest and attractions, including Feudal Castle, Clarisse Monastery, Convent of San Francesco, Oratorio Pelosi and Roman Aqueduct.

Tourist information

Located in the province of Avellino at an altitude of about 400 meters, in the Irpinian hinterland at the foot of Mount Terminio, Serino is crossed by the river Sabato and two streams, the Vallone delle barre and the Torrente Ferrarese.

Serino was probably founded by the Sabatini who, during the second Punic war, were forced by the Romans to leave their city.

Serino is an excellent starting point for discovering the beautiful Irpinia mountains, along pleasant hiking trails.

In the Faunistic Park, which stands along the road that leads from Serino to Giffoni Valle Piana, it is possible to make excursions on foot or by bicycle.

In winter, for ski enthusiasts, the Campolaspierto lifts are available.

In the hamlet of Canale there is the Oratorio Pelosi, which is an ancient Baroque noble chapel, dating back to 1475 and dedicated to San Vincenzo, where you can admire an interesting entirely hand-painted floor.

What see

Nearby are the remains of a feudal castle, of which only the chapel, the bell tower and the drinking trough remain.

In the Convent of San Francesco, dating back to 1600 and renovated in 1900, you can see the cloister, some frescoes and an ancient wooden statue.

The monastery of the Poor Clares, in late Baroque style, deserves to be visited, which preserves frescoes with scenes from the old testament, as well as a large oil by Riocciardi which represents Mary's motherhood.

The Pelosi Oratory is an ancient noble chapel, built in Baroque style in 1475 by the homonymous family and dedicated to San Vincenzo.
