Sopot (Poland): what to see

post-title

What to see in Sopot, an itinerary including the main places of interest of this renowned seaside resort and spa in Poland, including spas, beaches, Casa Storta and Museum.

Tourist information

Belonging to the urban area known as the Triple City, together with Gdansk and Gdynia, Sopot overlooks the Baltic Sea, in correspondence with the Gulf of Gdansk and in a sheltered position with respect to the open sea, thanks to the natural barrier formed by the Hel Peninsula.

Sopot is a popular spa and seaside resort, thanks to the beautiful sandy beach and the presence, in the hilly part, of ancient woods characterized by beech and oak trees.

In 1823, the doctor Jean Georg Haffner, after serving in the Napoleonic army, settled in Sopot and had a spa and seaside resort built, transforming the village into an attractive holiday destination.

The Art-Nouveau buildings in the city are reminiscent of the period after the First World War, when Sopot was a fashionable seaside resort, frequented by famous people.

What see

The main street is Ulica Bohaterów Monte Cassino, a nice pedestrian avenue overlooked by many shops, pubs and galleries, as well as a construction called Krzywy Domek, in Italian "Casa Storta", a definition deriving from the particular non-linear architectural form, created by the architects of the Szotynski studio, who drew inspiration from the Jan Szancer comics.

Inside the building there is a shopping center with restaurants, bars, beauty salons and other places of various kinds.

Continuing along Ulica Bohaterów Monte Cassino, you arrive at the Sopot pier, the wooden pier of 1928 which, with its 512 meters, is the longest in Europe.

To the north of the pier is the thermal park, overlooking the beach, in whose northern end stands the Aqua Park, equipped with thermal pools, slides and an artificial river with very fun rapids.

At the southern end of the beach, a charming nineteenth-century villa houses the Sopot Museum, where a collection of furnishings dating back to the same period as the building is exhibited.

In the Opera Lesna outdoor theater, the International Song Festival takes place every year, called Top of the Top Festival.
