Follonica is a seaside town located in the center of the homonymous gulf, between the promontory of Piombino and Punta Ala, in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany.

In Follonica the seabed slopes gently towards the open sea and its beaches of clear and fine sand are delimited in some stretches by beautiful pine forests, while on the horizon on clear days, the island of Elba appears clear, and together they see the island of Montecristo and Corsica.


In the nearby ports of Puntone di Scarlino, Castiglione della Pescaia and Piombino there are ferries that connect the mainland to the islands of Giglio, Giannutri, Capraia, Pianosa, Gorgona and, the largest island of Elba.

The flat territory of Follonica allows you to quickly reach any place in the city through cycle paths, then there are more demanding routes to do on foot or by bike in the beautiful natural landscape of the Montioni Park and the Bandite di Scarlino.

Along the coast there are very beautiful beaches, some close to the center of Follonica, such as Il Boschetto, Pratoranieri and the Lido, with bathing establishments and free spaces, others more distant such as the Carbonifera, Torre Mozza, La Polveriera, Cala Martina, Cala Violina, Cala Civette, Casetta Civinini.


Most beautiful beaches

The Carbonifera beach is about 5 km from the city center, it is characterized by a tower, a maritime-industrial port, where once coal from the Montebamboli mines was loaded onto ships.

It is possible to leave the car in a large parking lot and, before reaching the beach of fine and clear sand, cross a shady coastal pine forest.

La Carbonifera is part of the Sterpaia Coastal Park.


Torre Mozza beach is also part of the Sterpaia Coastal Park and is about 3 km from the center of Follonica.

The beach, lapped by clear waters, is dominated by a sixteenth-century watchtower of the Saracens.

La Polveriera is characterized by a very shallow seabed, it is 3 km from the center of Follonica.

Cala Martina, is about 7 km from the center of Follonica, can only be reached through a path in the woods to be done on foot or by bicycle, and is characterized by a rocky bottom that makes the water very clear and with beautiful reflections.

The beach is part of the Bandite di Scarlino Nature Reserve.

Cala Violina, is one of the most renowned and beautiful beaches of the Maremma, belonging to the Bandite di Scarlino nature reserve, characterized by clear sand and crystal clear sea, it can be reached only on foot through a path in the pine forest.

Cala Civette, the beach is about 11 km from the center of Follonica, is dominated by the tower of the same name and is among the wildest beaches on this coast, with a clear and transparent sea.

Casetta Civinini, about 12 km from the center of Follonica, is a very wide beach of fine and clear sand, mostly free, with a beautiful pine forest and a transparent sea.
