San Costanzo of Perugia
According to tradition, Constantius was brought before the consul Lucio at the time of Antonino's persecution.
He was severely scourged and then locked up with other companions in a burning stove from which he miraculously emerged unharmed.
In prison he managed to convert his jailers to the Christian faith who helped him to escape.
He hid in the house of Christian Anastasius, but was arrested again together with the one who had given him hospitality.
After a period spent between the prisons of Assisi and Spello he was beheaded near Foligno.
Some testimonies collected agree in placing his martyrdom at the time of Antoninus, in a place called "il Trivio" near Foligno.
It is then said that the saint, after the martyrdom, was transported to Perugia and buried not far away in a place called "Areola outside Porta S. Pietro", where the first cathedral of Perugia was built.
The current church of San Costanzo was built in the same place, consecrated in 1205 by Bishop Viviano, as recalls an existing inscription in the ancient altar.
