Psalm 138: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentPsalm 138 presents itself as a song of thanks to God, by the psalmist, for having used mercy towards him, listening to his prayer. He wishes to praise the Lord and refuses to join any idol, because he wants to sing exclusively to Him. God's response was not long in coming and made him stronger in front of all his opponents.

Psalm 138 complete

[1] Of David. I thank you, Lord, with all my heart: you have listened to the words of my mouth. I want to sing to you before the angels,

[2] I bow down to your holy temple. I give thanks to your name for your loyalty and your mercy: you have made your promise greater than any fame.

[3] On the day I invoked you, you replied, you increased my strength.

[4] All the kings of the earth will praise you, Lord, when they hear the words of your mouth.

[5] The ways of the Lord will sing, because the glory of the Lord is great;

[6] the Lord is exalted and looks towards the humble but looks to the proud from afar.

[7] If I walk in the midst of misfortune you give me life; stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies and your right hand saves me.

[8] The Lord will complete his work for me. Lord, your goodness lasts forever: do not abandon the work of your hands.
