post-title

What to see in Agrigento, one-day itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including Valle dei Templi, Temple of Concordia and archaeological museum.

Tourist information

The foundation of Agrigento dates back to 581 BC, when rodufel colonists founded it giving it the name of Akragas.

The Valley of the Temples is presented as an architectural ensemble of inimitable grandeur and incomparable suggestion, thanks to the magnificent temples of Juno Lacinia, Concordia, Hercules, Castor and Pollux, Jupiter Olympian, in whose vicinity there are colossal human figures call telamons.

The temples, located in the middle of the countryside, are built of yellow shell-shaped sandstone tuff.

The nearby Archaeological Museum collects materials found in the area that make up a very rich collection capable of documenting the developments in history and art concerning the Greek civilization that spread in the colonies of the motherland.

What see

As for the modern city, some medieval and baroque remains deserve mention, including the Abbey of Santo Spirito, the Church of Santa Maria dei Greci and the Cathedral.

The artistic beauty and the particularly mild climate make Agrigento a tourist center of great importance.

Among the famous people who lived in this Sicilian city, the philosopher Empedocles and the novelist Pirandello deserve to be remembered.
