Tourist information

Located about 38 km away from Parma, of whose province it belongs, Busseto is famous for being the birthplace of Giuseppe Verdi.

The first historical information of Busseto dates back to 772, in the tenth century it was a possession of the Pallavicino family, who chose it as the capital of their small state.


In the fifteenth century its importance significantly increased, while in 1588 it became a fief of the Farnese family.

In Piazza Verdi, in the heart of the city, overlook the old Town Hall of the fifteenth century, where an interesting terracotta frieze stands out, and the fortress, dating back to 1250 but rebuilt in the sixteenth century, seat of the Municipality and of the Verdi Theater.

On the opposite side of the square is the parish church of San Bartolomeo from 1436, with a Gothic facade, whose interior was renovated in the eighteenth century.


What see

Villa Pallavicino, built in the sixteenth century and located on the edge of the town, contains frescoed halls and halls, decorated with stuccos.

In this building there is the Civic Museum, where paintings made between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries are exhibited, as well as ceramic objects, furniture and sculptures.

On the ground floor there are the rooms dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi, where memorabilia, memories and various objects belonging to the famous composer are kept.

About 4 km from the center is the birthplace of Giuseppe Verdi, while 3 km, near Sant'Agata, is Villa Verdi, built by Giuseppe who chose it as a place to spend a period of his life and compose some of the his works.
