Tourist information

Located in the Peligna valley in the province of L'Aquila, Corfinio is a town characterized by medieval houses and traces of the Roman era.

The Valvense Basilica of San Pelino was built on the site of the tomb of Bishop Pelino, martyr of the fourth century.

Destroyed between the ninth and tenth centuries, the church was rebuilt in Romanesque style in the twelfth century, with subsequent expansion carried out in the following century.

Inside there is a twelfth-century pulpit.

What see

To the right of this building is the oratory of Sant'Alessandro, erected using materials of Roman origin, inside which it is possible to see an altar and frescoes of the fourteenth century placed in the absdid.

Of great interest are the apses of the two buildings, enlivened by arches and loggias including remarkable decorations.

To the left of the basilica is the Archaeological Museum of Corinthian antiquities, where various inscriptions and epigraphs dating back to the classical Roman era are exhibited.
