Corropoli (Abruzzo): what to see

post-title

What to see in Corropoli, a small Abruzzo village in the province of Teramo, famous for its Neolithic village located a short distance from the center in Ripoli and for the Abbey of Santa Maria in Mejulano, as well as for the event that takes place annually in July , known as the Palio delle Botti.

Tourist information

The historic center of Corripoli presents itself with the typical medieval characteristics.

The square "Piè di Corte", a name that means "at the foot of the Court", was built in 1830, following the elimination of the ruins of the Baronial Castle which belonged to the Dukes of Atri and the old surrounding houses.

The central fountain, which dates back to around 1835, was built by Ambrosio and Vincenzo Pantaleone of Torano Nuovo, based on a design by Carlantonio Ambrosj.

What see

The parish church of Sant'Agnese, in Baroque style, deserves to be visited, even if the oldest part dates back to the Middle Ages, built in turn on the remains of a previous Roman building.

Inside there are two wooden statues, the Madonna and Child from 1200 and the Madonna del Sabato Sabato from 1400.

Absolutely not to be missed is the Abbey of Santa Maria a Mejulano, an imposing-looking building erected on a small hill located less than 2 kilometers from the center of Corropoli, made of brick walls decorated with architectural elements reminiscent of the Gothic style.

The Palio delle Botti takes place every year in Corropoli, a very special traditional festival which takes place in the summer during the month of July.
