Tourist information

Small town in the province of Olbia-Tempio, Golfo Aranci is located in Gallura in the province of Sassari and constitutes one of the oldest areas of Sardinia.

The population of this locality slightly exceeds two thousand and two hundred inhabitants.

Contrary to what one might think, the denomination has nothing to do with the fruits but derives from the Gallurese dialect "Golfu di li Granci" or in Italian Golfo dei Granchi.

Slightly further north of Olbia, there is the port of Golfo Aranci in an excellent position, suitable for the docking of large ships thanks to the depth of the sea at that point.

This seaport is also used by the State Railways, by fishing boats and pleasure boats.

The first inhabitants were shepherds and peasants but with the passage of time, the sea of Golfo Aranci very rich in fish, attracted to it for fishermen from different locations, including in particular the island of Ponza.

For this reason, every year, on the occasion of the feast of the patron Saint Silverio, which is held on June 20, the inhabitants remember the coming of the Ponzesi fishermen with the Holy Mass and a procession in the gulf on board fishing boats.

Thanks to the construction of a merchant port and the railway station, Golfo Aranci soon welcomed new families from all over Italy, who found work and new development opportunities in Sardinia.
