The Saint of the day 30 June is the first martyr saints of the Holy Church of Rome, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
Holy first martyrs of the Holy Church of Rome
As Pope Clement attests, on this day the Church celebrates the many Christians who were massacred in the gardens of the Vatican by Nero, in the period between the end of the fire in Rome, which took place in July 64 and the year 67.
The persecution began immediately after the destruction of Rome through the fire that broke out in the night on the initiative of the emperor, who used that bloody move to try to save himself from the anger that had meanwhile raged in the people.
Tacitus, a famous Roman historian, in his Annals states: "some covered with wild beasts were left to tear to pieces by dogs, others were crucified, others were set on fire at the end of the day so that they served at night".
Among the most well-known victims of this massacre were the two greatest founding apostles of the Roman Church, namely Peter, sentenced to crucifixion in the Neronian circus, and Paul, an indefatigable missionary, beheaded at the Aquae Salvie.
