Tourist information

Located on the highest part of the valley affected by the homonymous river, Naro has very ancient origins, it is believed that it was a colony of the Greeks.

Throughout history, however, it has always had an important political and cultural role, with the presence still today, in its urban architecture, of interesting testimonies relating to its past.

During the Middle Ages, Naro became a possession of the Chiaramonte who, in the twelfth century, built a castle there, around which the entire town developed.

With full merit, the historic center of Naro is one of the most beautiful in the whole province of Agrigento, characterized by remarkable baroque buildings and a wall dating back to the thirteenth century, which has kept intact Porta Oro, one of the original doors.

What see

Very interesting is the Gothic church of Santa Caterina, built in the fourteenth century but with a façade reworked later with evident references to the Baroque style, inside which numerous works of art are preserved.

Inside the Sanctuary of San Calogero, city patron, it is possible to admire, in addition to the cave where the saint used to gather in prayer, a marble sculpture depicting Christ.

Do not miss the church and the convent of Sant'Agostino, built in the eighteenth century over the remains of a previous construction dating back to the twelfth century, in addition to the seventeenth-century church of San Francesco.
