Tourist information

Located in the upper Cedrino basin and provincial capital of Sardinia, Nuoro was a Nuragic settlement that did not suffer any Punic influence, later it became Roman dominion.

In the twelfth century, with the name Nugoro, it was an important fief of some Spanish families, while in the seventeenth century it was included in the marquisate of Orani.

The visit itinerary can be started from the house of Grazia Deledda, located in the homonymous street dedicated to this writer who was awarded the Nobel prize for literature in 1926.

In this building is housed the museum created in honor of the Deledda.

Continuing beyond Piazza San Giovanni you reach Piazza Santa Maria della Neve, where there is the nineteenth-century cathedral, containing inside a seventeenth-century dead Christ, a work attributed to Tiarini.

What see

In the nearby Civic Museum in via Leonardo da Vinci, numerous archaeological, paleontological and speleological finds from eras between the Neolithic and the early Middle Ages are exhibited, among which the only menhir statues found on the island are of considerable interest.

In via Mereu, on the Colle di Sant'Onofrio, which is an area used as a public garden, there is the Museum of Sardinian life and popular traditions, where ceramics, furniture, utensils, musical instruments, traditional costumes, embroidery and tissues.

Among the excursions to be done in the surroundings include that of Monte Ortobene, a holiday resort 8 km away and located in the woods, with a statue of Christ the Redeemer on the summit, at 955 meters above sea level, a work created in 1901.

At 12 km there is Oliena, a village with an agricultural and pastoral imprint placed on the slopes of the Sopramonte, where the female costume is considered among the richest in Sardinia.
