Pescocostanzo (Abruzzo): what to see

post-title

What to see in Pescocostanzo, one of the historic villages of Abruzzo, with the typical aspect of the Renaissance mountain village, particularly popular in the winter months by passionate skiers.

Tourist information

Among the main things to see in Pescocostanzo is the Basilica of Santa Maria del Colle, called the Collegiate.

Of the two portals on the facade, one is from the fourteenth century and the other from the sixteenth century, the interior has five naves with a wooden coffered ceiling.

The internal architecture is in stone, enlivened by the multiple colors of the furnishings and the carved wooden furnishings, as well as by paintings and statues.

The five coffered ceilings are the work almost entirely by Carlo Sabatini of Anversa degli Abruzzi, dating back to the late 1600s.

There are also a beautiful marble baptismal font and numerous paintings on canvas attributed to Tanzio da Varallo.

What see

Very beautiful to see is the thirteenth-century Madonna del Colle, a wooden sculpture dating back to the eleventh century.

Near the church at Palazzo Fanzago, there is the tombolo museum, where silver objects, paintings and sculptures by local artists are kept.

The museum also collects artifacts and information on the art of bobbin, a particular type of lace made with bobbins, weaving a thin cotton thread.

The hermitage of San Michele Arcangelo is located 3 kilometers from the center of Pescocostanzo, at the foot of Mount Pizzalto in Pedicagna.

The main facade encloses the cave that houses the church and the funeral chapel of the Ricciardelli family, while the minor side facade delimits the living area, with two rooms on two levels and built as a shelter for transhumant shepherds.
