Psalm 92: complete, commentary

post-title

CommentPsalm 92 begins by illustrating how beautiful it is to give praise to the Lord and the author reflects on how great works of God are such as the liberation from Egypt, the Sinai covenant, the conquest of the Promised Land and the construction of the temple. What God thinks is so profound that men can understand it only in part, moreover, despite having many enemies, the psalmist feels strong enough to fight them, having received as a gift from God the strength necessary to do it.

Psalm 92 complete

[1] Psalm. I sing. For Saturday.

[2] It is good to give praise to the Lord and sing your name, O Most High,

[3] to announce your love in the morning, your faithfulness throughout the night,

[4] on the ten-string harp and on the lyre, with songs on the harp.

[5] Because you rejoice me, Lord, with your wonders, I exult in the work of your hands.

[6] How great are your works, Lord, how deep are your thoughts!

[7] The senseless man does not understand and the fool does not understand:

[8] if sinners germinate like grass and all evildoers bloom, an eternal ruin awaits them:

[9] but you are the exalted forever, O Lord.

[10] Behold, your enemies, O Lord, behold, your enemies will perish, all evildoers will be scattered.

[11] You give me the strength of a buffalo, sprinkle me with shining oil.

[12] My eyes will despise my enemies, and against the wicked who assail me my ears will hear inauspicious things.

[13] The righteous will flourish as a palm tree, will grow as a cedar from Lebanon;

[14] planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the halls of our God.

[15] In old age they will still bear fruit, they will be full and thriving,

[16] to announce how righteous the Lord is: my rock, in him there is no injustice.
