Biography San Giovanni Bosco

San Giovanni Bosco was born on August 16, 1815 in a peasant family, residing in a modest farmhouse located in "I Becchi", a hillside hamlet of Castelnuovo d’Asti, today's Castelnuovo Bosco.

He was fatherless at the age of two and his mother Margherita, as they were years of particular misery, had to struggle a lot to raise their three children, working hard in the fields.

At the age of nine, Giovanni had the first revelation dream, which together with those he had subsequently, was a source of great inspiration for him, a guide on the way to follow and make him the bearer of prophecies addressed to individual people, to the community and to his beloved young people, as well as the Salesian Congregation and the Church.

Taking example from St. Francis de Sales, his educational and apostolic methodology is based on a Christian humanism that draws motivations and energies from the sources of evangelical wisdom.

He was the founder of the Salesian congregation and, together with Santa Maria Mazzarello, the congregation of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.

Among the most beautiful fruits of his teachings was San Domenico Savio who, at just 15 years of age, had learned his lesson by stating that "here, at Don Bosco's school, we make holiness consist in being very happy and fulfilling perfect of our duties ".

John Bosco was declared a saint at the end of the year of the Redemption, on Easter 1934.

On January 31, 1988 it was John Paul II who declared him Father and Master of youth, establishing that, thanks to this title, he should be honored and glorified, above all by those who consider himself his spiritual children.
