The Saint of the day 4 September is Santa Rosalia, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
Santa Rosalia
Daughter of Duke Sinibaldo, Santa Rosalia de 'Sinibaldi, in order not to be forced to marry a man she did not like imposed on her by her family and to follow the religious vocation that she strongly felt she had, she ran away from home, spending her life moving from a cave to the other, following the directions of an angel on the itinerary to follow in order not to run the risk of being discovered.
When her bones were moved to the Cathedral of Palermo in 1624, a serious plague that was decimating the population ceased and this made her declare patroness of the city.
For the deep devotion of the Palermitans nurtured towards Santa Rosalia, at the Diocesan Museum of Palermo, in the Green Room, there is a collection of many paintings from the period between the XIII to the XIX century, depicting the Saint.
Among these stands out a 13th-century panel which is believed to be the first official portrait.
