Tourist information

Located on the banks of the Staffora river in the province of Pavia, Voghera is the main center of Oltrepò Pavese, where many agricultural and industrial activities are based.

Anciently inhabited by the Ligurians, when it had the name of Iria, it was conquered by the Romans at the end of the second century BC.


In the Middle Ages it was a possession of the Beccaria and Visconti, the latter granted it in county to some noble families.

In 1743 it became part of the Savoy territories.

The Cathedral of San Lorenzo, whose construction dates back to medieval times, was rebuilt at the beginning of the seventeenth century, only the base of the bell tower remains of the original structure, while the facade was built around the mid-1700s.


Inside there is a fresco depicting the Madonna del Soccorso, dating back to the end of the fifteenth century.

What see

The Red Church, whose name derives from the fact that bricks were used for its construction, is a Romanesque-style building built at the end of the twelfth century and dedicated to Saints Flavius ​​and George.

The facade includes arches and a mullioned window placed above the portal, inside there is the Shrine Temple of the Italian cavalry.


The Church of San Rocco houses inside, in the presbytery area, a fresco depicting Sant’Anna, made by Paolo Borroni, while in the choir there is a bas-relief made by students of the school of Amadeo.

The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, built in 1492 in Gothic Romanesque style and restored in 1926, has a single nave interior with side chapels.

In the eighteenth-century Palazzo della Certosa is housed the Oltrepò Pavese historical archaeological museum, where many objects from the Roman period are exhibited, which came to light following the excavations carried out on the place where the ancient village called Clastidium once stood.

In the surroundings of Voghera, 7 km away, there is Montebello della Battaglia, an agricultural and industrial center, consisting of two separate nuclei, one of which is located on a hill and the other on the plain.

Very interesting is the seventeenth-century Villa Pallavicino, which has preserved the original structure together with the vast Italian garden.
